Description
This Cave Bear skull represents one of Europe's most iconic Ice Age mammals. The prominent canines and broad molars reveal the mixed diet that sustained these giants — powerful enough to tear meat, flat enough to grind tough plant material. Standing 12 feet tall on hind legs, Ursus spelaeus dominated European caves until its extinction 24,000 years ago.
Recovered from Romanian cave deposits, this specimen preserves the story of the last ice age. Cave bears hibernated through brutal winters in limestone caves, the same chambers where early humans painted images of mammoths and lions on stone walls. The massive skull structure and deep jaw show an animal built to survive one of Earth's harshest climates.
